Sulla scia della lista dei migliori film dell’anno pubblicata ieri dal National Board of Review, il New York Film Critics Circle ha svelato le proprie scelte per i film che hanno conquistato i loro cuori nel 2021, ma le liste non potrebbero essere più diverse.
Mentre la NBR selezionato Liquorice Pizza come miglior film dell’anno, il NYFCC ha scelto Drive my Car. Basato su un racconto dell’autore giapponese di successo Haruki Murakami, il film segue un attore vedovo che si lega al suo autista ventenne per amore e perdita. Drive My Car è stato il vincitore nelle categorie principali di diversi festival cinematografici, tra cui l’Asia Pacific Screen Awards, il Festival di Cannes, il Chicago International Film Festival, i Gotham Awards e altri.
Il western di Netflix The Power of the Dog è stato selezionato in tre categorie: miglior regista per la regista Jane Campion, miglior attore per Benedict Cumberbatch e miglior attore non protagonista per Kodi Smit-McPhee. Il film è ambientato nel 1925 Montana e segue due fratelli che gestiscono con successo un’operazione di allevamento.

Best First Film: The Lost Daughter (directed by Maggie Gyllenhaal)
Special Awards: Maya Cade (creator of the Black Film Archive), Diane Weyermann (of Sundance and Participant), and Marshall Fine (General Manager of the NYFCC)
