Nomadland ha vinto i Critics Choice Awards del 2021.
Il film Searchlight ha vinto quattro premi, tra cui miglior film e miglior regista per il regista Chloé Zhao. Con i premi in arrivo poco dopo la morte del mixer del suono di produzione del film, Michael Wolf Snyder, Zhao gli ha reso omaggio durante il suo miglior discorso di accettazione alla regia.
“I momenti migliori della nostra giornata [sono stati] l’intera troupe che guardava Wolf e lui diceva: ‘Preparati ad andare al tuo posto zen’. E lo abbiamo fatto. Grazie, Wolf, ti onoriamo e ti vedremo lungo la strada “, ha detto Zhao.
I premi per la migliore attrice e attore sono stati assegnati rispettivamente a Carey Mulligan di Promising Young Woman e al compianto Chadwick Boseman, con la vedova di Boseman, Simone Ledward Boseman, che ha accettato il premio a suo nome.
“Potrebbe avere qualcosa su questa storia e l’importanza delle voci nere che raccontano storie nere”, ha detto Ledward Boseman in video sul suo defunto marito e su quello che avrebbe potuto dire mentre raccoglieva la sua ultima vittoria per il suo ruolo in Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom.
Uno dei momenti più memorabili dello spettacolo si è verificato quando l’ attore di Minari Alan Kim è scoppiato in lacrime mentre è apparso in remoto, indossando un minuscolo smoking, per accettare il premio come miglior giovane attore / attrice.
Nella sala stampa virtuale, Kim ha detto che non era sicuro del perché avesse pianto, ma che il premio significava molto perché era uno dei suoi primi premi. La parte migliore del fare il film ambientato in Arkansas, ha detto, è stata “tutto”, aggiungendo che l’intera esperienza è stata “divertente” ma “eccitante”.
