CODA ha aggiunto un altro trofeo alla sua stagione di premi ai Writers Guild Awards 2022, poiché il film Apple su un bambino udente in una famiglia di non udenti ha vinto il premio per la migliore sceneggiatura adattata.
La sceneggiatura di Siân Heder per il film che ha diretto ha anche vinto il primo premio della serata alla cerimonia virtuale ospitata da Ashley Nicole Black.
In un discorso di accettazione del video, Heder ha detto: “Ho avuto un’educazione davvero incredibile nello scrivere questa sceneggiatura”, ringraziando “le persone della comunità dei non udenti che sono state le mie collaboratrici”, incluso il suo CODA (un acronimo per i bambini degli adulti sordi) e i consulenti sordi e consulenti per la lingua dei segni.
L’altro premio principale, per la sceneggiatura originale, è stato assegnato per ultimo, con quel premio andato ad Adam McKay e David Sirota di Don’t Look Up per la loro satira sul cambiamento climatico.

Ha ringraziato coloro che hanno contribuito al film Netflix, incluso Sirota, che McKay ha detto “mi ha dato l’idea per questa sceneggiatura”.
Numerosi esperti di Oscar ora affermano che la competizione per il miglior film è principalmente tra CODA e The Power of the Dog, che ha vinto i migliori premi ai Directors Guild Awards e ai BAFTA Awards, tra gli altri.
The Power of the Dog , così come la sceneggiatura adattata di Netflix, candidata all’Oscar The Lost Daughter , che ha vinto l’USC Scripter Award il mese scorso, non erano entrambi idonei per i Writers Guild Awards.
Nelle categorie TV, HBO Max’s Hacks e HBO’s Succession hanno vinto ciascuno due premi, con l’ultima stagione dell’omonimo programma notturno della TBS di Conan O’Brien che ha vinto per la migliore serie comica/di varietà, il secondo anno consecutivo che la serie talk premia il caro Last Week Tonight With John Oliver ha perso ai Writers Guild Awards.
