Nella notte si sono tenuti i Critics Choice Awards. A trionfare, Roma di Alfonso Cuarón che si aggiudica la statuetta sia come miglior film (in assoluto) che come film straniero. Una cosa più unica che rara .
Cuarón è stato impegnato sul palco durante uno spettacolo in cui la Broadcast Film Critics Association e la Broadcast Television Journalists Association hanno diffuso l’amore tra le sue 42 categorie di film e TV. Il regista messicano ha anche vinto i trofei Miglior regista, Migliore cinematografia e Miglior film straniero; la domanda è se stiamo vedendo un’anteprima degli Oscar in un mese e mezzo – lo scorso anno, lo show della Critics ‘Choice ha azzeccato 17 dei 19 vincitori degli Oscar.
“Questo gruppo di messicani non è così cattivo come a volte sono ritratti”, ha detto Cuarón sul palco, accettando l’ultimo premio. Ha ringraziato Netflix per “portare questo film alla gente nel mainstream”.
Parlando di vincite multiple, ce ne sono state alcune. Lady Gaga ha iniziato lo spettacolo con una migliore canzone vincitrice di “Shallow” di A Star Is Born , poi co-vinto il premio per la migliore attrice con Glenn Close di The Wife (era il secondo pareggio della serata, unendosi a Sharp Objects Amy Adams e Patricia Arquette di Escape at Dannemora nella migliore attrice in una serie limitata.
